The Copenhagen based, danish bass-baritone has performed roles such as Don Giovanni, Leporello, Guglielmo, Figaro, Count Almaviva, Billy Budd, Evgeni Onegin, Papageno, Marcello, Nick Shadow, Kurwenal, Wolfram and Golaud in productions by Peter Konwitchny, David Pountney, Kasper Holten, Francesca Zambello, Willy Dekker and Götz Friedrich, in opera houses like Kassel, Hamburg and Berlin (State Operas), Brussels La Monaie, Paris La Bastille, Royal Opera Copenhagen, New Israeli Opera, San Diego and Cincinnati Opera, Wellington New Zealand and in Santiago, Chile. 

Critical acclaim has been superlative, such as: “The baritonal genius”, “Powerful voice”, “Klangprächtig”, “At complete vocal ease”, “Fabulous vocal depth and clarity”.

He has worked with renowned conductors such as Mstislav Rostropowitch, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Sir Neville Marriner, Gary Bertini, Herbert Blomstedt, Christopher Hogwood, Kent Nagano, Toni Papano, René Jacobs, Phillippe Herreweghe, Thomas Hengelbrock, Armin Jordan, Jeffrey Tate and Peter Schreier. 

With his vast lied and concert repertoire, he has been invited to the main music centres of Europe including The Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Berliner Philharmonie, London Barbican Centre, Tonhalle Zürich, Palao Musicao Barcelona, Paris Theatre de Camps Ellysiée and Cité de la Musique, and to many Festivals around the world such as Perth, Edinborough, Luzern, Istanbul, Schleswig Holstein, Innsbruck, Brussels, Milano, Madrid and Venice. 

He has personally collaborated with composers such as Poul Ruders, Luigi Nono, Wolfgang Rihm and Hans Werner Henze on the performance of their compositions.

Johannes holds a position as professor of voice at the Hochschule für Musik, Nürnberg. He also teaches voice at The Academy of Music in Odense, and at master classes and courses around the world.  He was a guest lecturer at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and at the Musikhochschule in Kassel

Johannes is a certified performance coach and works with musicians struggling with performance pressure and stage fright.
