João Barros studied piano in Conservatório D. Dinis with Elsa Cabral. In 2012 started studying Singing in Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional with Nuno Vilallonga. In 2014 finished the Bachelor in Choir
Conducting and Music Education in Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. As an Erasmus student, studied at Kodály Intezet, in Kecskemét, Hungary. Now João is finishing the Masters in Choral Conducting with Paulo Lourenço, in Escola Supeior de Musica de Lisboa. Recently he worked with Vasco Azevedo, Alberto Roque, Brett Scott, Árpád Toth, László Nemes, Georg Grün and Neil Ferris.
In the last few years he premiered both choral and instrumental pieces from Portuguese composers such as João Costa, Carmen Pomet, Carlos Garcia and João Caldas, Ana Catarina Barros, João Llano and many other
João teaches choir and vocal training at Academia Musical dos Amigos das Crianças and Escola de Música da Paróquia de Alfornelos. Since 2014, he taught in Academia de música da Graça, Academia de Música de Lisboa and Academia de Amadores de Música.

As a Singer, João recently sung with Tenso Europe Chamber Choir, Ensemble Vocal Desafinados, Officium Ensemble, Coro Ricercare, Meestes&Gazelen and he performed in 12 different countries.

João is working with some of the most prestigious amateurs choir in Portugal, like Grupo Coral de Queluz and  Regina Coeli choir. In 2017, João was the main conductor of Coro Académico de Lisboa. In the same
year, The Chamber choir of Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa won a gold medal and the best performance of the obligatory piece under his conducting, in the biggest choir festival in Portugal, Festival Coral de Verão.
In the summer of 2017 he conducted the choir of the contemporary music festival Peças Fescas Açores. The same festival invited him to be the director of the jury for the composers competition. In September 2017,
João was invited by World Masters in China to conduct more than 50 choirs and
