Belgian countertenor Jan Wouters started studying music (Oboe, piano, singing, solfège, composition and music history) at his local music academy in Herentals. At the age of 16 he continued his music studies at the secondary school Heilig-Graf (Music department) in Turnhout, amongst others in the singing class of Nele Geerinckx and Katrine Druyts. In 2013 he graduated with greatest distinction( Summa Cum Laude). Jan was a laureate at the Princess Christina Competition in ’s Hertogenbosch, Holland, and in November 2013 he became 1st Laureate and winner of the National Competition Belfius Classics in Brussels, Belgium. In September 2018 he became finalist in the International vocal competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Since 2013 Jan studies at the LUCA school of arts, campus Lemmens, in Leuven, where he obtained his Bachelor diploma in 2016. His teacher was Gerda Lombaerts. In 2016 he started studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich with Prof. Fenna Kügel-Seifried Where he obtained his master with greatest distinction. 

He took masterclass with Maarten Koningsberger (Amsterdam/ Paris), Roberta Alexander (Rotterdam), Monica Benvenuti (Florence), W. Stephen Smith( Julliard, New York) and Kai Wessel (Köln). During his studies, Jan been performing regularly as a soloist.

Various concert band orchestras in Flanders invited him to join them on stage for unique performances. Last years he sung concerts including Stabat Mater (Pergolesi)/ Stabat Mater (Vivaldi)/ Stabat Mater (Tuma)/ Stabat Mater (Cafaro)/ Gloria (Vivaldi)/ Comeye Sons of Art (Purcell)/ Te Deum (Charpentier)/ Johannespassion (Bach)/ Christ lag in Todesbanden BWV 4 (Bach)/ Weihnachtsoratorium (Bach)/Mattheuspassion(Bach/TrauerKantate (Telemann)/ Requiem (Mozart)/ Cavell Mass (World Premiere,Mitchell)/ Nelson Messe (Haydn)/ Dido and Aeneas (Purcell, role of Sorceressand Spirit)/ Giulio Cesare in Egitto (Händel, role of Tolomeo)

In 2015 he sang Sea Pictures( Elgar), with the Symphonic Youth Orchestra Edegem: A world premiere for a countertenor to sing this song cycle with an orchestra. Jan had his first big opera debut in February 2017 at Prinzregententheater Munich in Jonathan Dove’s ‘Flight’ as Refugee.
