Bio

Iva Kupresak was born in Zagreb where she began her formal vocal training. After moving to the United States of America, Iva continued her vocal studies and work with some of the world's most respectable vocal coaches, teachers and conductors, such as James Levine, Joan Dornemann, Liora Maurer, Lucy Arner, Rockwell Blake and Aprile Milo, among others. Soon she emerged as one of the most prominent young mezzosopranos with notable performances in roles such as Dalila in Saint- Saens' opera Samson et Dalila, title role in Bizet's opera Carmen, Charlotte in Massenet's opera Werther, Amneris in Verdi's Aida, Tina in Argento's The Aspen Papers, Fricka in Wagner's Die Walküre, Erda in Wagner's Das Rheingold, Waltraute in Der Gotterdammerung, etc. Her passion and excellence in the recital genre granted her increasing acclaim as one of the most unparalleled in her artistry as a recitalist. She performed in prestigous venues and opera houses such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, Symphony Hall, both the Alice Tully Hall and Rose Center of Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center in Washigton, Dallas Opera, Saint Loius Opera, Chicago Theater, New York Lyric Opera, Philippine Opera. Iva also received recognition from some of the most prominent opera critcs today. New York Times critics praise her expressive vocalism and exceptional musicinaship, while Ira Siff (Opera News reviewer and Metropolitan Opera Broadcast commentator) describes her as a rich and powerful mezzosoprano of a rare beauty. Iva holds a degree in historical musicology from a prestigious Ivy League University in the New York City, Columbia University. During her studies at Columbia University, she was enrolled in a music program at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where she studied voice with professor Valerie Girard. In July 2015, Iva founded a music school in her hometown, Zagreb- Croatia, which is accredited by the Croatian Ministry of science, education and sports. As an avid and passionate volunteer, in her spare time, Iva teaches music as a part of „arts for social change“ program in public schools located in the third world countries, such as Dominican Republic, Cuba and Bosnia and Hercegovina.
