«In Iko Raatikainen’s energetic and strong direction [Dido and Aeneas] has been updated so much that it almost becomes a contemporary depiction of the most painful battle - an embarrassing reminder of all the insignificances that govern our lives today.»
Wilhelm kvist, hufvudstadsbladet 4 April 2017 (2018)

Iko Aleksi is a young, accomplished Stage Director from Helsinki, Finland. He began his career as a baritone studying at Metropolia University of Helsinki and performing in various operas before finding his passion in opera directing. He studied stage direction with the esteemed Professors Kasper Holten and Wilhelm Carlsson at Stockholm’s University of the Arts.

In 2016 he directed the Finnish premiere of Handel’s Theodora, to considerable critical acclaim. Iko Aleksi also has a fascination for 20th century music, and in 2014 he created a performance of Peter Maxwell Davies’ Eight Songs for a Mad King.

His most recent work, Handel's Dido and Aeneas (2017–2018), in collaboration with the English Vocal Consort of Helsinki and the University of the Arts Helsinki was a raving success in the Finnish media. In August–September 2018 he will work as an assistant director in Christof Loy's Tosca at the Finnish National Opera.
