French-born soprano Hjördis Thébault first studied Law at the prestigious Sorbonne University. She then got a Master’s degree in Voice from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she was noticed by conductor Kent Nagano who invited her to join the Opéra de Lyon company.Very much appreciated for her warm, full and sonorous voice and her expressive qualities , Hjördis Thébault regularly performs on French and foreign scenes where she alternates works of the baroque repertoire (L'Orfeo, Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Dido and Aeneas, Scylla et Glaucus, Amadis, Sémélé...) and major roles of the grand repertoire (Abigaille, Brünnhilde/Walküre, Tosca, Tatiana, Contessa Almaviva...). She has performed on prestigious stages such as Teatro La Fenice, Accademia Santa Cecilia, Grand-Théâtre de Genève, Prague Státní Opera, San Francisco Davies Symphony Hall, Théâtre du Châtelet, Barbican Centre in London, Capitole de Toulouse, Kölner Philharmonie, Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux, Opéra national de Lyon, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées... and has sung under the direction of renowned conductors such as Kent Nagano, Armin Jordan, Jean-Claude Malgoire, William Christie, Marc Minkowski, John Eliot Gardiner, Louis Langrée, Michel Plasson...In concert, her repertoire is also very eclectic and covers works as diverse as Ravel’s Shéhérazade, Janacek’s Glagolitical Mass, Berlioz's Cléopâtre, Poulenc’s Gloria and Dame de Monte Carlo, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, César Franck's Rébecca, Haendel's Messiah, Schubert's Mirjams Siegesgesang, Mozart’s Requiem and C minor Mass, Bach’s B minor Mass, Saint Matthew's and Saint John's Passions or Monteverdi's Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda and Vespro della beata Vergine.She is also invited by international festivals (Ravenna, Radio-France/Montpellier Ambronay, Beaune, Flâneries musicales de Reims, Utrecht, Bratislava, Sigulda, Festival baroque de Lyon, La Chaise-Dieu...).Hjördis Thébault has recorded a number of award-winning discs and DVDs such as Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène (Virgin Classics), Marin Marais’ Sémélé (Glossa), Salieri’s Falstaff (Dynamic), Monteverdi’s Orfeo (Dynamic), Johann Christian Bach’s Amadis de Gaule (Ediciones singulares). Other titles include Gluck’s Alceste (Arthaus), Bizet’s Docteur Miracle (BNL), Mozart’s Requiem (K 617), Lully’s Proserpine (Glossa), Hummel’s Mathilde de Guise (Brilliant Classics), Concert arias by Johann Christian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Brilliant Classics), Meyerbeer in France (Brilliant Classics). Her CD Patrie !, duets from French romantic operas and Lodoïska were both nominated for the International Classical Music Awards.The coming season, Hjördis Thébault will sing Purcell's The Fairy Queen with the French prominent baroque music ensemble Les Nouveaux Caractères at the Ambronay Festival and the Clermont-Ferrand Opera. She is also invited to sing at the magnificent Teatro Juarez (Mexico) for the Festival Internacional Cervantino in a little known opera by Salieri : Don Chisciotte alle nozze di Gamace. Hjördis Thébault will also give a Wagner-Strauss recital at the Lyon Opera. The CD of Purcell's The Fairy Queen recorded for Glossa Music will be released in 2017. She will also make her debut at the Berlioz Festival with the role of Miss Rowan in Britten's The Little sweep.
