Bio

From 2011 to August 2017 Giulio Alvise Caselli was a member of Theater Augsburg, where he gave his debut as Conte Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro). Further parts were a.o. Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus), Dancairo/Moralès (Carmen), Nardo (La finta giardiniera), Belcore (L'Elisir d'amore), Algerier (Luigi Nono's “Intolleranza 1960”) and Hans Scholl (Weiße Rose by Udo Zimmermann).
In 2013/14 he sang in Augsburg the role of Pelléas in Debussys “Pelléas et Melisande”.
In 2012/13 he opened the season with the title role in Don Giovanni and sang a.o. Schaunard (La Bohème).
In 2015 he sang one of the four main roles in the world premiere of the opera Tahrir by Hossam Mahmoud at the Landestheater Salzburg.
From 2006 to 2008 Giulio Alvise Caselli was a member of Theater Dortmund, where he gave his debut as Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia). In this role he also guested at Theater Freiburg and Theater Augsburg. Further parts in Dortmund were a.o. Schlemihl (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Achilles (La belle Hélène) as well as Marullo in Christine Mielitz’ production of Rigoletto.

Guest engagements led him a.o. repeatedly to Landestheater Linz, where he sang 2011 Marcello (La Bohème), 2010 Frédéric (Lakmé) and 2009 Momus in Rameau’s Platée. 
In July 2009 he sang Figaro in Paisiello’s Barbiere di Siviglia at the Hans Werner Henze Festival Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano under the baton of Roland Böer.
Giulio Alvise Caselli worked a.o. with directors such as Peter Konwitschny, Christine Mielitz, Doris Dörrie, Monique Wagemakers, Jan Philipp Gloger, Roland Schwab, Lorenzo Fioroni, Anthony Pilavachi and with conductors such as Zoltán Peskó, Arthur Fagen, Dirk Kaftan, Roland Böer, Markus Poschner, Domonkos Héja, Leo Siberski, Michael Helmrath und Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla.
Further guest engagements led him a.o. to Theater Aachen, Würzburg, Pforzheim, Reggio Emilia, to the Konzerthaus of Berlin and the Rheingau Musik Festival.

In 2007 he sang Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) at Konzerthaus Berlin under the baton of Leo Siberski. At Teatro Comunale in Modena he interpreted Ned Keenein Cesare Lievi’s production of Britten’s “Peter Grimes”, which was live broadcasted by Radio3Rai.
He was a finalist at the 2007 International Singing Competition Toti dal Monte in Treviso.
Giulio Alvise Caselli was born in Ferrara, Northern Italy. He studied violin at the Conservatory as well as Literature and Linguistics at the Universities of Ferrara and Regensburg and finished his litetarure studies with credits, while studying voice with his mother, the soprano and singing professor Maria Gabriella Munari.
Further studies led him to Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, where he worked with Wolfgang Brendel and Sylvia Greenberg and received his degree in 2005. He attended the Lied class with Helmut Deutsch as well as master classes a.o. with Thomas Hampson, Luciana Serra, Guido Salvetti, Franco Fussi and Mirella Freni. As a member of the Bayerische Theaterakademie in the Prinzregententheater he sang in several productions a.o. Minotaurus in Bohuslav Martinù’s Ariadne, Anchise in Cavalli’s La Didone, Nardo (La finta gardiniera)  and Starveling (A Midsummernight‘s Dream) as well as Fieramoscain Berlioz’ Benvenuto Cellini.
Concert and Lied recitals included Mozart’s Mass KV 258 in the cathedral of Modena, Haydn’s Missa in Tempore Belli; Gounod’s Requiem and Dvôrák’s Psalms; several times Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin, Wolf’s Italian Song Book, Brahms’ Liebeslieder und Neue Liebeslieder, Joseph in Berlioz’ L’Enfance du Christ, the Canzoni of Francesco Paolo Tosti as well as Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the Orchestra Città di Ferrara.
