Italian conductor Giancarlo Rizzi was born in 1982 in Verona and he graduated at the Sibelius Academy with Leif Segerstam in orchestral conducting (spring 2013). There he had also the opportunity to study with Jorma Panula and Mikko Franck, among others.In summer 2014 he has been invited by Lorin Maazel to join his conducting masterclass during the Castleton Festival ( USA).

In 2016 he started a collaboration with the "Pomeriggi Musicali" orchestra in Milan conducting Lucia Off, an adaptation of Lucia di Lammermoor by Alberto Cara starring Desirée Rancatore andFrancesco Micheli. He has been reinvited for the 2017 season to conduct the same production in Milan and to conduct a concert in the regoular concert season.

He made his concert debut with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, as a special award for best students in Accademia Chigiana 2015 (teacher M. Tabachnik).

He has been assisting M° Antonello Manacorda for the production of Rossini’s Otello at Theater an der Wien in February 2016 and he will continue to collaborate with M°Manacorda for the production of Lucio Silla at La Monnaie in 2017.

In September 2013 he made his debut with Lahti symphony orchestra and in November 2013 he conducted for the first time Tampere Philharmonia orchestra where he has been invited also for 2014/15 season. In may 2015 he conducted the Turku Philharmonic orchestra for the first time.After his participation in the 2014 International competition Jeunesses Musicales (Bucharest) he has been invited to conduct the Kielce Philharmonic ( Poland).In April 2013 he has been assistant to Mikko Franck and he made his debut at the Finnish National Opera, conducting two performances of Pagliacci.In 2012 he was the assistant to Sakari Oramo in a production of Carmen with the West Coast Kokkola Opera Festival and returned later that year to conduct his own production of operas by Glanaert and Vivaldi.He has been among the three finalist of the Princess Astrid Conducting Competition 2014 with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra  (Norway) and among the 10 semi-finalists of the London Symphony orchestra  Donatella Flick conducting competition 2014.After his participation in the Pedrotti competition in 2010, he made his Italian debut conducting the Haydn Orchestra of Bozen and Trento in June 2011.He started his conducting studies with Gilberto Serembe and continued at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles with P. Gérard, studying also with Donato Renzetti in a summer Masterclass in 2013 (Terrassa, Spain).
