Bio


Gerardo Garciacano trained at Indiana University in Bloomington and at the studio of the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg.


The Mexican baritone has made a name for himself with the most important roles in the lyric repertoire, among others Dandini, Malatesta, Mercutio, Conte in Le nozze di Figaro, Nardo in La finta gardiniera and Frank/Fritz in Die Tote Stadt.


At Oper Köln he sang Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Guglielmo and Papageno. In 2009 he starred as Schaunard in La Bohème im Hochhaus, a coproduction of ARTE and Swiss Television SF1 (available on DVD).


 At Theater Dortmund he performed Guglielmo, Marcello, Lescaut in Massenet’s Manon, Conte in Le nozze di Figaro, Belcore, Posa in Don Carlo, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Germont, Argante in Rinaldo and Don Giovanni. In 2016/17 he is singing Valentin in Faust, Papageno and Falke.


Gerardo Garciacano has sung at Salzburger Landestheater, Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, Opéra National de Montpellier, Opéra-Théâtre d’Avignon, Opéra de Toulon, Nationaltheater Mannheim and Theater Basel among others. In 2005 he made his debut in Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City as Mercutio in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette performing alongside Rolando Villazón and Anna Netrebko. In 2016 he is singing the title part in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Aalto Theater Essen.


In recent years Gerardo has also performed Lied recitals, Dichterliebe and Hugo Wolf songs at CENART in Mexico City, Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and An die ferne Geliebte at Konzerthaus Dortmund and with Neue Meister der Liedkunst in Stuttgart, as well as Schumann's Liederkreis Op. 39 and Rückertlieder at Stadttheater Bern. Melodías de (in)dependencia, a successful concert program of Argentinean and Mexican 20th-century art song was recorded on CD by Telos Music in 2012. In 2015 he interpreted Die schöne Müllerin at Theater Dortmund.
