Bio

Born to an Egyptian father and an Italian mother, Georges Wanis has followed
rich musical studies. Beginning his educational journey in Cairo with his tutor
Violette Makar, and concluding it in 1995 with Carolina Dumas at l'Ecole Normale de
Musique de Paris. She has – with no doubt –given him that phrasing, diction, and sense of nuance, which consists one of his first elements, today.
It is at that school that he was unanimously nominated first in 1998 with the jury’s special honors. He then received the Diplôme Supérieur of singing performance and the scene directing prize with Michel Roux and Michel Hamel.

Numerous other prizes received in many international contests have marked his professional debuts:
1
st
prize in the singing contest organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture in 1995, “Interprétation” Prize in the international singing contest with Honors organized by the UFAM, in Paris in 1998, 1
st
prize in Léopold Bellan contest with Excellence in 1999, in Paris, and laureate of the Prix Lyrique des Œuvres des Saints Anges, in 2000, in Paris.
On another front, he has a master’s degree in French obtained from the University of Cairo, in 1994.

Georges Wanis is regularly performing in the biggest roles of the repertoire, as well as in recitals and oratorios. He is also, a regular guest of the concerts performed at Saint Julien le Pauvre church, in Paris, with ''A tribute to Pavarotti" which gained the audience’s acclaim.
If the Bel Canto is where he excels, he is equally remarkable in other pieces of Bach, Schumann, Berlioz, Cimarosa, Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Honegger, Britten, Monteverdi...

On stage, he has been Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Nadir in Bizet’s Pêcheurs de Perles, Alfredo in Verdi’s Traviata, Nicias in Massenet’s Thaïs, the Duca of Mantova in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Radames in Aida , Cavaradossi I Puccini’s Tosca,  Selim in Tarik Benouarka’s Le Souffle, Faust of Gounod and Don José in Bizet's Carmen...
His curiosity has driven him equally to less known roles such as Satyavan in G.Holst’s Savitri, and Ibn Sina (Avicenne) of Michiel Borstlap.

He has performed in the most renowned theatres and festivals in France and abroad:
Cairo Opera, Algier Opera, Egyptian Cultural Centre in Paris, Cité Internationale des Arts
of Paris, Grand Amphithéâtre de la Sorbonne, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Athénée
Theatre (Paris), Unesco main Hall (Paris),  Festival de Bruges (Belgium),
Morella (Spain), Autumn Festival of Come (Italy), Festival de Saint-Céré,
Estivales en Brou in Bourg en Bresse; in 2008 at Plainpalais the Verdi concert
in the occasion of the Eurofoot with l'Opéra Studio de Genève...

He has worked with the highest musicalmasters such as the pianiste Aldo Ciccolini, the maestros Dominique Rouits, Davide Crescenzi, Ivan Filev, Giorgio Crocci, Jung Hwa Moon; and the singers Alain Fondary, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Giuseppe Giacomini, Wilhelmina Fernandez, Bruna Baglioni, Alain Vanzo, as well as the scene director Vittorio Rossi...

In addition, George Wanis has a teaching inclination.
He has initiated the master classes, which take place on a yearly basis in Egypt,
offering to his native country that passion for singing and for such a refined art as the Opera.
