Hong Kong born bass-baritone, Freddie Tong, has added over thirty roles to his repertoire. Based in London, Freddie made his debut with English National Opera in 2009, singing the role of Monterone in Rigoletto, under the baton of Stephen Lord. Since, he has returned to sing Nourabad in The Pearl Fishers under the baton of Rory Macdonald, and created the role of The Cardinal in The Duchess of Malfi, a new work by Torsten Rasch. In 2012, Freddie created the role of The Bong Tree in Anne Dudley’s The Owl and The Pussy Cat with The Royal Opera House for 2012 London Olympic Festival. Recent roles include Ferrando in Il Trovatore, Timur in Turandot and Sparafucile in Rigoletto for Musica Viva Hong Kong under the baton of Lio Kuokman; Angelotti in Tosca, Second Soldier and First Nazarene in Salome for Opera Hong Kong under the baton of Gianluca Martinenghi and John Neschling; the Imperial Commissioner in Madam Butterfly for Scottish Opera and Raymond Gubbay Company at The Royal Albert Hall, conducted by Marco Guidarini and Oliver Gooch respectively. Freddie has also worked with famous directors, such as Enrico Castiglione, David Freeman, David Edwards, Maurizio di Mattia, Penny Woolcock, Jonathan Miller and Paul Curran. Other notable opera companies Freddie has worked for include Opera Holland Park (Masetto in Don Giovanni), Singapore Lyric Opera (Dancairo in Carmen), Grange Park Opera (Dulcamara in L'Elisir d'Amore and Bartolo in The Barber of Seville) and Diva Opera ( Sulpice in La Fille du Regiment, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Dr Grenvil in La Traviata). Other roles for Opera Hong Kong include Le Bailli in Werther under the baton of Jacub Hrusa, Il Frate in Don Carlo under the baton of Hirofumi Yoshida, Speaker in Die Zauberflote conducted by Jari Hamalainen and Colline in La Boheme under the baton of Bruno Aprea.
