Franziska Rabl fell in love with classical music at a young age, first studying violin, viola, and french horn, and then playing in various youth orchestras and chamber music ensembles. Born into a musical family as a dual citizen of Germany and the United States, she soon knew she wanted to be a musician.Franziska studied voice with Pamela Coburn and Marilyn Schmiege at the conservatory in Munich. The International Opera Studio (IOS) in Zurich, Switzerland, awarded the young mezzo soprano a position in 2004/2005, and at the end of the season she was engaged by the theater in Dortmund from 2005-2008. There, she starred in title roles such as Carmen and Hänsel, but also got in touch with her first Wagner operas, singing Flosshilde and Siegrune in the ring cycle. As a guest star, she has also sung in Montpellier, (Dorabella), and at the Opéra de Lyon, France, and at many German opera houses. 2010/11 saw Franziska at the Gärtnerplatztheater in her hometown, Munich, as Isabella (L'italiana in Algeri), and Orlovsky (Die Fledermaus). She stayed in Munich for another season as a member of the Gärtnerplatz cast, singing in Fledermaus, Italiana, Die Zauberflöte (2. Dame), Falstaff (Meg Page), L'amour des trois oranges (Clarice), and many more operas and operettas. At the same time, Franziska continued enlarging her fach, and worked her way into the heavier repertoire. While starring in the Belcanto role of Romeo (I Capuleti), she also worked on the challenging roles of the Verdi, Wagner, and Strauss repertoire, such as Eboli (Don Carlos), Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde), Fricka (Die Walküre) and Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos). Being no stranger to Wagner operas, she hugely enjoys immersing herself in that repertoire.Franziska Rabl has already performed in a wide range of roles from baroque to contemporary parts, including Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Carmen (Carmen), Nicklausse (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Charlotte (Werther), Fricka (Das Rheingold), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), The Secretary (The Consul) and in the world premiere of "Der Herr Nordwind" at the Zurich opera, the role of Frau Holla, the goddess of the North. In addition, Franziska is a regular on the concert stage, giving song recitals from Dowland to Cole Porter, as well as singing oratorio repetoire (Bach St. John's and Matthew's Passion, Christmas Oratorio etc, Handel Messiah, Beethoven Missa Solemnis, Rossini Stabat Mater, Verdi Requiem et al). Franziska Rabl was a Prizewinner of the "Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum" (Salzburg, Austria) in 2004 and won the Renate-Holm-Operetta award at the Jan-Kiepura-Competition in 2005. She speaks German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Swedish and is a citizen of both Germany and the US.
