Bio

Francesco Giusti was born in Bologna (Italy) in 1983. In 1992 he begun to study piano at the Bologna Conservatoire, until 1999 where he chose to focus on organ and composition. He then became a student in the Organ class at Ferrara Conservatoire, with Maestro Francesco Tasini in 2002 and begun his studies of Musicology at the Bologna University.
In the year 2000 he started singing as a counter-tenor and has since performed in numerous concerts, both as soloist and chorist, in Italy and other countries as Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Slovenia and Japan. He regularly collaborates with different important early music ensembles such as “Ensemble Concerto” led by Roberto Gini and “Il Canto di Orfeo” led by Gianluca Capuano. In 2004 he sang the motet “Ego Flos Campi” on the Ensemble Concerto CD entitled “Monteverdi´s Sacred Music” published by Dynamic.
He was furthermore a member of the vocal group “Ensemble DSG” conducted by the Maestro di Cappella of San Petronio in Bologna, Maestro Michele Vannelli. With this ensemble he took part in many concerts and recordings in both Italy and France between the years 2000 and 2008 and, together with Ensemble Concerto, performed several of Monteverdi´s masterpieces such as “Orfeo” in Mantua, 2006 and recorded “Vespro della Beata Vergine” and “Missa in Illo Tempore” in 2007. He is also amongst the four soloists of a CD containing the motets of the ´Opera Seconda´ by Giovanni Paolo Colonna, recorded by Ensemble DSG.
In 2006 he moved to the United Kingdom to study singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. There he was a student of Andrew Watts and in 2007 he obtained a Bachelor Of Music degree.
In 2008, he begun studying historical singing at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Leipzig, Germany with Gundula Anders. In 2009 he performed the leading role in a school production of the opera “Mario Fuggitivo” by Bononcini with several performances in Eastern Germany. He graduated in 2010 obtaining an Ergänzungsstudium degree.
Starting in 2011 he has been part of the opera project “Les Idées hereuses et Les Barricades Misterieuses” led by Prof. Christa Näher of the Städel art school in Frankfurt Am Main and the violinist Matthias Klenota, now a master degree graduate of the class of Amandine Beyer at the Schola Cantorum Basilensis in Basel, Switzerland. In 2015 Klenota and Näher brought to life their newest project, ‘Centauri’, yet again a staged work in which Francesco was the only singer. Together with a very skilled instrumental ensemble they presented the work during the contemporary music festival ZeitRäume Basel.
Between 2014 and 2016 he was a student of Xenia Meijer and Maarten Koningsberger in a two year Master of Music study at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He graduated with a mark of 9 out of 10. During this time at the school he participated in numerous projects under the leadership of conductors like Johannes Leertouwer, Teunis van der Zwart and Paul Dombrecht. Over the years he has received coaching from, among others, Marek Rzepka, Robin Bowman, Emanuele Moris, Christian Curnyn, Dame Emma Kirkby, Magreet Honing, Evelyn Tubb, Claron McFadden, Therese de Goede and Max van Egmond.
