Bio


Florian Cafiero started singing at the age of 13 at the Conservatoirede  La Rochelle from which he graduated 3 years later. After scientific studies at the Ecole Normale Supérieure and at the Ecole Polytechnique, he started again his vocal studies, first at the Sir Georg Solti  Accademia, then at the Studio de l’Opéra de Lyon. He worked under the  guidance of artists such as José Cura or Jean-Pierre Furlan, and  attended master-classes held by Angela Gheorghiu, June Anderson or Ruggero Raimondi. He is awarded prizes such as the prestigious “Lyrical revelation of the year” in France by the ADAMI, as well as in competitions such as the Bordeaux Opera competition or the Medoc International Competition. In 2015 and 2016, he received the "Fondation Jeunes Talents" award.

He performed in venues such as the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Mariinski Theatre (Primorsky stage), La Monnaie - Brussels, in Italian theatres (Teatro Municipale - Piacenza, Teatro Valli, Reggio-Emilia, Teatro Pavarotti - Modena), and in many French opera houses: Opéra de Lyon, Opéra de Marseille, Opéra National de Montpellier, Opéra National de Lorraine (Nancy), Opéra National de Bordeaux, Opéra de Nice, Opéra de Tours, de Limoges, Angers/Nantes Opéra etc.


His operatic roles range from Fernand (La Favorite) to Alfredo (La Traviata). Riccardo (Un Ballo in Maschera), Don Jose (Carmen), Wilhelm Meister (Mignon), or Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly).


He has been working in productions staged by Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser, La Fura del Baus, Michael Haneke, Yannis Kokkos, Tobias  Kratzer or Olivier Py among others, and under the baton of conductors such as Paolo Arrivabeni, Jose Cura, Gaetona d'Espinosa, Christopher
Franklin, Riccardo Minasi, Stefano Montanari or Michael Schonwandt.

In the operetta repertoire, he recently sang Pâris (La Belle Hélène) opposite to Véronique Gens's Hélène at the Grand-Théâtre de Genève, Madame Poiretapée (Mesdames de La Halle) at the Opéra National de Lyon, or Gustave (Pomme d'Api) at the Opéra de Rennes.


He has also been singing in recitals, in venues such as the Chorégies d’Orange, the Opera National de Lyon, the Opera National de Bordeaux, the Opera National de Lorraine, the Pablo Casals festival, the Brussels Summer Festival.
