"But if there was a guest artist who was consistently good and engaging, it was the Marcello of Brazilian baritone Fernando Araujo. The acting and the singing were magnificent and you could see how well he connected with the ensemble."

«"The Sechs Monologe aus Jedermann für Bariton und Orchester by frank martin were sung by fernando araujo, with clear phrasing and excellent understanding of the text, masterly projected over the artisan-like orchestral landscape, as hans graf so appropriately described it."»
Drehpunkt kultur Salzburg, 15.12.2015 (2017)
«"As the opening number the brazilian fernando araujo sang escamillo´s toreador song brilliantly with a downright control of the delicate tessitura. the low register was as convincing as the top. i especially enjoyed Figaro´s largo al factotum especially because he didn´t rely o the typical tricks and effects with the head voice associated with the often mistreated piece, delivering it instead with honesty and impressive high notes".»

«"As papageno , he finds the perfect balance between serious and funny, gracious and light-feeted, slightly oscillating between comic and naive melancholy. his magnificent times sounded at times too dramatic for this small, over-acoustic space, and would be certainly come accross at its best in a larger hall such as the grosses festspielhaus"»
Der Neue Merker, april 2016 (2017)
«"Because the Brazilian Fernando Araujo possesses all the vocal and acting qualities required for this role, he is predestined for the barber of seville"»

Baritone Fernando Araujo was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and studied Piano and Voice at Indiana University, Bloomington, and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.  He began his musical path as a pianist playing for the singing classes of Virginia Zeani, the opera department at the Mozarteum University, and having the honor to accompany world stars such as Barbara Bonney in recitals around the world.Since recent years he develops a professional singing career that counts as international highlights Escamillo in the Carmen production of Arnaud Bernard at the Lithuanian National Opera, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte with the Gut Immling International Opera Festival at the Philharmonie in Munich, Don Alfoso in Così fan tutte at the Verbier Festival (Opernstudio and special participation in the concert of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa), Marcello in the La Bohème production of Sir Anton Juan in the Samsung Hall in Manila, Amonasro and Rigoletto under the baton of Ilmar Lapinsch at the Festival Winds of Baikal in Russia, Schaunard at the Gut Immling International Opera Festival with the Munich Symphony Orchestra, as well as many guest appearances in productions at the Mozarteum University - including Ford in scenes from Verdi´s Falstaff and the title roles in Mozart´s Le Nozze di Figaro and Rossini´s Il Barbiere di Siviglia staged by Eike Gramss. During the Bernsteintage in Salzurg he sang the baritone solo in Bernstein´s "Songfest" under the direction of Dennis Russell Davies and at the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, he was selected to sing in the final academy concert under the baton of Maestro Fabio Luisi.  On a scholarship to the Stage d´Etè in France, he had one more time the opportunity of working with Maestro Luisi, this time as Guglielmo and Leporello in scenes from Così and Don Giovanni. Equally at home in the twentieth-century and contemporary repertoire, he interpreted Frank Martin´s  "Sechs Monologen aus Jedermann für Bariton und Orchester" in the Orchesterhaus Salzburg under the baton of Hans Graf, sang the role of Alberto Serra in the Austrian premiere of Manfred Trojahn´s "Die Limonen aus Sizilien" at the Mozarteum, and created the part of Dante in the joint world premieres of Christopher Preissing´s "Inferno" and Robert Kyr´s "Paradiso" at the DeBartolo Center for the Performing Arts, Notre Dame, IN, on a special commission from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, NY.  Fernando is a recipient of the Verdi Prize and the Audience Prize in the 2016 "Grandi Voci International Singing Competition" under the patronage of KS Grace Bumbry.  Highlights of the 2017 Season are his signature roles , Figaro in Rossini´s "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" at the Schloss Amerang in Bavaria,  Papageno in "Die Zauberflöte" with the Philharmonie Salzburg, and an Opera Gala aside Kammersängerin Grace Bumbry.  Upcoming engagements include the world premiere of Jeppe Jacobsen´s "Troja" at the Skive Opera Festival, Danemark.  He is a dual citizen of Brazil and Italy and lives in Salzburg.
