Bio

In 2011, Mr. Tristan was awarded the Kenan Performing Arts Fellowship at Lincoln Center Institute, a prestigious program for emerging artists that culminated in his successful NYC Debut Performance Recital on the Lincoln Center campus which was entitled “Viva La Flauta!” He has performed with different orchestral and chamber ensembles in Mexico, his native country, as well as in the United States and Europe under the baton of Mark Laycock, Ransom Wilson, Charles Barker, Anatoly Zatin. Awards, prizes and scholarships include from organizations such as the Winston-Salem Foundation, DW Productions, Organization of American States andCONARTE.  Mr. Tristan has performed in master classes for Patrice Bocquillon, Michel Debost, Robert Dick, Wolfgang Dünschede, Paul Edmund-Davies, Jean Ferrandis, Katherine Kemler and Keith Underwood, among others. Collaborations include with composers such as: Samuel Adler, Daniel Catán, Robert Dvorak, Joan Tower, Dan Welcher and Lawrence Dillon. His flute and orchestral conducting teachers and mentors include Tadeu Coelho, Ransom Wilson, Aralee Dorough, Sydney Carlson, Jennifer Keeney, Franz Anton Krager, Luis González and Carolina Garza.  Mr. Tristan holds degrees in music, communication and marketing from the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey, Universidad Regiomontana,University of Houston and University of North Carolina School of the Arts.  A versatile artist, Mr. Tristan currently resides in New York City and performs regularly with various orchestral and chamber groups in the area.   Upcoming engagements for this season include a recital at the National Flute Association Convention 2014 in Chicago, a performance with Altius Winds in collaboration with the New Jersey Symphony, as soloist with the New York Concerti Sinfonietta in Carnegie Hall, and a recital titled “21st Century Flute” returning to Lincoln Center’s David Rubinstein's Atrium as part of the Target® Free Thursdays Series. Visit felipetristan.com
