Bio


Erica Cortese, italian mezzosoprano, was born in 1994 in Carpi (MO). She started singing in 2013 and now she is attending the bachelor course of opera singing in the Conservatory of Music “A. Boito” of  Parma, as student of the mezzosoprano Adriana Cicogna.

In 2015, she sang as soloist in many concerts with Corale Verdi of Parma and Corale Don Arnaldo Furlotti of San Secondo, in various theaters of Emilia Romagna. In the same year, she played the role of Flora in Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata, at the Teatro Ennio Magliani of Corcagnano.

Between 2015 and 2016, Erica sang many times Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria RV589, in particular the Soprano II solo with Associazione Adagio e Furioso of Reggio Emilia and the Contralto solo with the Orchestra “I Musici dell'Accademia” (from Bologna's Philarmonic Academy); speaking of sacred music, she also sang the role of Contralto in Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. In the same years, she played many times the roles of Conversa and Suora Infermiera in Giacomo Puccini's Suor Angelica, for the first time at the Chiesa di San Rocco of Parma and last time at the Teatro dei Teatini of Piacenza, conducted by M° Stefano Rabaglia.

On January 21th, 2017, she sang A. Vivaldi's Stabat Mater RV621 conducted by M° Federico Maria Sardelli.

In the Conservatory, between 2016 and 2017, she performed also in some new compositions, original works by some students of the composition course and by some teachers too, like M° Luigi Abbate, by whom she sang Privatum III (Actio), written for M° Azio Corghi.

During her musical studies, Erica attended many masterclasses with important opera singers and conductors, such as soprano Elizabeth Norberg-Schulz, soprano Fiorenza Cedolins, M° Federico Maria Sardelli, baritone Roberto Frontali, mezzosoprano Daniela Barcellona and M° Alessandro Vitiello. Moreover, after being chosen for the project of “Residenza Artistica” on German and Austrian repertoire, organized by Emilia Romagna Festival, she has been able to improve her skills with soprano Paulina Abber, M° Lior Shambadal and soprano Eva Zwedberg.

Among her recent engagements, the debut dated 24 June 2017 in the role of Dorabella of W. A. Mozart's Così Fan Tutte at the Complesso di San Benedetto di Priorato di Fontanellato (PR), the recital “Opera cantata e... suonata” of 10 August 2017 at the Foyer of Teatro Nuovo of Mirandola and finally the concert at Rocca Sforzesca of Imola with Turkish National Youth Philarmonic Orchestra for Emilia Romagna Festival in which Erica sang the Dritte Dame of Mozart's Zauberflöte conducted by M° Cem Mansur. 

In October 2017, Erica is singing the roles of Fenena from Nabucco and Maddalena from Rigoletto in many concerts of the project Verdi Off, part of Parma's Festival Verdi 2017.
