Praised for her “rich, soulful tone” and “dynamite stage presence”, emerging dramatic mezzo Emma Rothmann made her German debut in 2015 as the Hexe in Hänsel und Gretel. This performance was met with high praise from adult audiences and weeping from terrified children.During the 2016/2017 season, Ms. Rothmann will be adding to her repertoire the comprimario roles of die Aufseherin (Elektra), Page (Salome), Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas) and Erste Norn (Götterdämmerung) to her repertoire.Other current roles include Carmen (Carmen), Mrs. Herring (Albert Herring), Arnalta (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Marcellina (Le Nozze di Figaro), Suzuki (Madame Butterfly) and Maman, la Chatte and la Tasse Chinoise (L'Enfant et les Sortilèges). With Judith (Herzog Blaubart), Annina (Der Rosenkavalier), Ulrica (Ballo in Maschera), Mary (Der Fliegende Holländer) and Erda (Der Ring des Nibelungen) in preparation for future projects covers.Ms. Rothmann’s concert and oratorio repertoire includes the alto solos in the Dream of Gerontius (Elgar), Elias (Mendelssohn), Johannes-Passion (Bach), alt-Rhapsodie (Brahms), Sea Pictures (Elgar), Messiah (Handel) and Requiem (Mozart). She has worked with an array of exciting conductors and directors including Sir Charles Mackerras, Lawrence Cummings and Anthony Hermus.
