Bio

Houston based soprano Emily Louise Robinson has just returned from a season as one of Opera Colorado’s Resident Young Artists. There she was kept busy performing numerous concerts and recitals. She was seen by thousands of community and school children as Gretel and Micaëla in the company’s touring productions of Hansel and Gretel and Carmen respectively. On the main stage at the Ellie Caukins Opera House she sang the role of High Priestess in Aida and in the spring of 2016 covered the role of Hester Prynne in the world premiere of The Scarlet Letter. She had the opportunity to perform the role of Hester Prynne for the student matinee.  Emily received a Performers Certificate from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston where she sang the title role in Frau Margot, Beatriz in Rapaccinni’s Daughter, Love Simpson in Cold Sassy Tree, and Magda in The Consul. In Houston she has also performed the role Mimi in La Boheme and been a member of the Houston Grand Opera Chorus. Emily was a 2015 Gulf Coast Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions. Robinson received her master’s degree from New England Conservatory where she debuted the role of June Jenkins in Dan Shore’s NOA prize winning opera An Embarrassing Position. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Chicago where she studied Musicology. After graduation she worked for the Center for Italian Opera Studies under the direction of Rossini scholar Philip Gossett as a research assistant and proof editor.  She assisted with the production of a critical edition of Rossini band music and the critical edition of Le Comte Ory, both published by Bärenreiter.
