David Zimmer was born into a german-czech family in Frankfurt am Main und grew up in Berlin. He learned to play the piano and violoncello and after mutation began vocal training. When he had finished highschool he studied the double bass at the University of Music Hanns Eisler in Berlin and played in various orchestras, e. g. under Zubin Metha, Sir Simon Rattle, and Sebastian Weigle. At the same time he pursued his vocal studies with the teachers Jacek Pazola, Carl Tanner and Susanne Schimmack.

Since the season of 2012/13 David Zimmer has been engaged as lyrical tenor at the Landestheater Coburg. His wide repertory in opera, operetta and musical includes Belmonte in The Abduction from the Seraglio, Narraboth and the Fourth Jew in Salome, Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Goro in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Camille de Rosillon in The Merry Widow, Leopold in The White Horse Inn, and Freddy in My Fair Lady. Zimmer also gave guest performances as the Fourth Jew in Salome at the Landestheater Detmold.


In the season of 2015/16 David Zimmer sang, among others, Fenton in Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, Flavio in Bellini’s Norma, und the parts of the Italian Tenor, Majordomo of Faninal, and Innkeeper in Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier. As Gérald in Lakmé David Zimmer made his debut in the French lyrical repertory. As a Lied interpreter he performed in a scenic production of Schubert’s Winterreise in an adaptation by Hans Zender.

At the Theater Magdeburg David Zimmer sang Fenton in a new production of The Merry Wives of Windsor and also took over this part as a guest at the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg. At the Theater Kiel he gave a guest performance as Freddy in My Fair Lady.

In the season of 2016/17 David Zimmer will enlarge his repertory with Jaquino in Beethoven’s Fidelio, and the leading part in Offenbach’s Orphée aux enfers. Furthermore, he will devote himself to Lieder, with songcycles like Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte, and Schumann’s Dichterliebe.
