Bio

David Zimmer was born into a German-Czech family and grew up in Berlin. He studied the double bass at the Academy of Music „Hanns Eisler“ in Berlin and played in various orchestras, e. g. under Zubin Metha, Sir Simon Rattle and Sebastian Weigle. At the same time he pursued his vocal studies with the teachers Jacek Pazola and Carl Tanner. He is currently studying with Neumar Starling.
From 2012 to 2017 David Zimmer was engaged as lyrical tenor at the Landestheater Coburg. There he developed an extensive repertoire and sang roles such as Belmonte, Narraboth and 4th Jew (Salome), Nemorino, Camille de Rosillon (The Merry Widow), Fenton in Nicolais The Merry Wives of Windsor and the Italian singer in Rosenkavalier. With the role of Gérald in Lakmé he gave his debut in the French lyrical repertoire. In addition, he sang in a scenic production of Schubert’s Die Winterreise in the adaptation of Hans Zender.
In 2016 guest engagements led him as Fenton (The Merry Wives of Windsor) in a new production to the Theater Magdeburg and the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg. As Freddy in My Fair Lady he gave guest performances at the Kiel Theater.
In 2016/2017 David Zimmer sang the role of Jaquino in the new production of Fidelio at the Landestheater Coburg with great success and received resonance for this role debut in the national press as well. His other parts in Coburg included the title role in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld. In the spring of 2017 he performed the role of Henry „Birdie“ Bowers in the new production of Miroslav Srnka’s South Pole at the Staatstheater Darmstadt.
Since 2017 David Zimmer has been working freelance. In the autumn of 2017 he is singing the role of Wanderer in a scenic ballet production of the Winterreise in an orchestral version by Hans Zender at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden and the Staatstheater Darmstadt. Furthermore he is singing an operetta gala at the Staatstheater Braunschweig and again Freddy in My Fair Lady at the Theater Kiel. At the beginning of 2018 he is taking over the role of Louis Ironson in Peter Eötvös‘ opera Angels in America at the Theater Münster. At the end of the season he is making his debut at the Komische Oper Berlin in Shostakovich’s The Nose.
