Bio

Born and raised in Scotland, David followed in both of his parents' footsteps in taking up a brass instrument at an early age. Settling quickly on the tuba, it wasn't long before David was studying at the Junior Academy of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and playing for the National Children's Orchestra of Scotland, National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and European Youth Brass Band. David took up conducting whilst still at secondary school and quickly made a name for himself by winning the National Association of Brass Band Conductors' Competition aged 17. David has benefited from masterclasses and coaching from such notable conductors as Garry Walker, Alasdair Mitchell, Nigel Boddice, Ray Farr and Russell Gray.  David has performed for royalty on a number of occasions, including as a soloist in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh and has performed in many of the country's top concert halls including the Sage at Gateshead, Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, Belfast's Waterfront Hall and the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms. David is currently Associate Conductor at Eccles Borough Band and enjoys conducting and playing with a number of ensembles in the North West on a freelance basis. His brass quintet, Lowry Brass, has recently been awarded the Philip Jones Prize for brass chamber music at the RNCM and are looking forward to a series of concerts and workshops in the Autumn.
