David Feldman, Countertenor

The Israeli countertenor David Feldman graduated from the vocal department of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where he completed both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees, studying with Bibiana Goldenthal and Zvi Semel. He went on to study at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, specializing in vocal ensemble music of the 16
th
and 17
th
centuries, gaining an Advanced Master's degree under the guidance of Evelyn Tubb and Anthony Rooley.

David now enjoys a varied career, working as a soloist and ensemble singer with a number of leading international ensembles. As a soloist, he has performed with La Cetra Barockorchester Basel, Luthers Bach Ensemble, Ludovice Ensemble, Israel Camerata Jerusalem, Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheva, Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra, Phoenix Early Music Ensemble, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Barrocade Baroque Collective and Haifa Symphony Orchestra. David is featured as a soloist on the 2017 GRAMMY-nominated Deutsche Grammophon CD recording by La Cetra Barockorchester Basel, alongside soprano Magdalena Kožená, conducted by Andrea Marcon.

As an ensemble singer, David collaborates with groups including Musica Fiorita, Ordo Virtutum, Musica Temprana, Weser Renaissance and Vox Luminis. For a number of years, he was a regular member of Profeti della Quinta with whom he toured extensively across Europe, North America and Asia, and performed at prestigious early music festivals including York, Utrecht and Ambronay. In 2011, the ensemble won first prize at the York Young Artists Early Music Competition and went on to record six award-winning CDs.
David also devotes himself to opera, having appeared as Ruggiero in Alcina by Handel in Theatro São Pedro, Refugee in Flight by Dove in Stadttheater Sursee, in King Arthur by Purcell with Vox Luminis and in The Fairy Queen by Purcell in Theater Basel.

David's career has taken him to some of the most prestigious venues around the world, as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Warsaw Philharmonic, Konzerthaus Berlin, Palau de la Música Catalana, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Händel Festspiele Göttingen and the Israel Festival Jerusalem. He appears frequently on numerous radio and television broadcasts, on stations including BBC Radio 3, NPO4 and France Musique.
Additionally, David has received accolades at several prominent vocal competitions, including being awarded the distinction of 'Highly Commended' at the Paul Ben-Haim competition in Tel Aviv, and the prize for 'Most Promising Young Artist' at the Musica Sacra competition in Rome.

Aside from his commitment and expertise in the field of historically informed performance, David also maintains a passion for being actively involved in the creation of new one. Most recently, he has given premiers of works, such as Ella Milch-Sheriff's Dark am I and Oded Zehavi's Old Poet's Songs, a work composed especially for him.
