Bio

Danilo Formaggia, born in Milano, he studied piano and singing and took advanced courses with Alfredo Kraus and Magda Olivero. In 1996 he made his operatic debut in Due Contesse by Paisiello and Due Baroni by Cimarosa at the Opera Buffa Festival.
He has since then established an international career, performing regularly in some prestigious opera houses and festivals, including Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Massimo “V. Bellini” di Catania, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, Operanhaus in Leipzig, Opéra de Montecarlo, Sydney Opera House, Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden, Edinburgh Festival, Royal Danish Theatre, International Music Festival Český Krumlov, Festival de Radio France di Montpellier, Rossini in Wildbad.
He worked with such conductors as Claudio Abbado, Colin Davis, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Donato Renzetti, Nello Santi, Claudio Scimone and with directors such as Dmitri Bertman, Robert Carsen, Giancarlo Corbelli, Filippo Crivelli, Lindsay Kemp, Denis Krief, Franco Zeffirelli and Graham Vick, Franco Ripa di Meana, Karl-Ernst and Ursel Herrmann, Isabella Bywater.
His repertory includes works by Piccinni, Paisiello, Rossini, Donizetti, Beethoven, Bellini, Mercadante,Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Giordano, Cagnoni, R. Strauss, Mahler, Krenek and Stravinskij. His repertory also includes several national and international premieres of contemporary
operas such as Poesie di Puccini by Franco Mannino, Il fantasma della cabina by Marco Betta, La bella e la bestia by Marco Tutino, La Tempesta by Henry Purcell/Carlo Galante, La madre del mostro by Fabio Vacchi, La maschera di Punkitititi by Marco Taralli and Il Re nudo by Luca Lombardi, Lo stesso Mare by Fabio Vacchi and Exit Mundi  by Giovanni Tamborrino.
