Cristina Sogmaister has an unusually wide repertoire of works performed.
They cover French, Russian, Czech and German opera and operetta, always in
their original languages including English, and a wide variety of oratorio and
secular concert items. She is also an experienced recitalist.
A noted specialist in the taxing coloratura operatic roles of Rossini, and the bel
canto repertoire in general, she is often cast in his and other composers’ trouser
roles, nonetheless maintaining an enviably wide repertoire of diverse opera,
operetta, concert and recital styles and periods of composition, including
suitable newly-written works. Possessed of that vocal agility and consummate
stagecraft which the comic Rossini roles demand, she can nonetheless encompass
the more expressive emotional depth and legato phrasing appropriate to the
works of Bellini, and, indeed, Handel.
