Bio

Tenor, Christopher Jackson, is a versatile singer, voice teacher and vocal coach with musical experience ranging from Baroque to Musical Theater. His voice has been described as a light lyric voice with a high extension and warmth in tone. This season he joins returns in performances with Cor Cantiamo, which includes a world premiere of “The Seven Heavens” by British composer James Whitbourn. He returns to his alma mater, Princeton High School in Cincinnati, OH, as a featured soloist for their bi-annual performance of Händel’s The Messiah. This season he also will be performing the role of Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with Northern Illinois University’s Opera Theatre. The 2015-16 season Mr. Jackson joined the roster of Cor Cantiamo, a professional touring chamber choir in residence at NIU. That season they performed extensively throughout the Chicago land area including appearing as guest artist at Harper College and at the 2015 Michigan Choral Directors State Convention in Flint, Michigan. In spring of 2016 he appeared as Henrik in Stephen Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music” and presented a recital with music reflecting on the events of WW1. In 2014-15 he performed the role of Bastien in Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne with NIU Opera Theater. He also performed as tenor soloist in composer James Whitbourns’ Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis during Mr. Whitbourns’ residency at NIU. Christopher also performed in recital at the Cincinnati Academy of Music as well as in the roles of Orpheus and Mercury in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld with Halifax Summer Opera Festival in Nova Scotia, Canada. He has also performed in many Opera Choruses such as productions of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience, Donizetti’s E’Lisir D’Amore, Handel’s Acis and Galatea and Dido and Aeneas, as well as Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea all with Bowling Green State University’s Opera Theater and a concert of selections from Princess Ida at the Simpson Garden Park in Bowling Green, OH. Professional ensemble engagements include the company debut production of Porgy and Bess with Cincinnati Opera in 2012 and in La Traviata, La Boheme, Turandot and Don Giovanni with Toledo Opera and Beethoven 9th symphony and Handel’s Messiah at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. In the past Christopher has had the opportunity to perform the lead roles of Lord Tolloller in Iolanthe, Nanki-Poo in The Mikado and Cyril in Princess Ida, all Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas, as well as covering both roles of Basilio and Don Cruzio in Mozart’s Le Nozze Di Figaro with Bowling Green State University Opera Theater. He also portrayed the role of Mingo in a concert of selections from Porgy and Bess for BGSU’s 2011 Festival Series. Christopher holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from BGSU and recently completed a Graduate Performer’s Certificate in Voice Performance from NIU where he is currently pursuing a Master’s of Music.
