Bio

United Kingdom based mezzo-soprano Christine hails from Sweden where she studied Musicology at Uppsala University and vocal studies at Kapellsbergs Musikskola. Christine continued her training at Birmingham Conservatoire where she won the Mario Lanza Society Competition. Of her performance of Dido in Dido and Aeneas the Oxford's Times wrote "Sjolander's beautifully suspended account of Dido's Lament kept me firmly anchored in another world". Christine has performed with opera companies across the UK and recent roles include Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Rosina and Berta (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Suzuki (La Bohème), Meg Page (Falstaff), Mayor's Wife (Jenufa) and Olga (Eugene Onegin). Equally at home with oratorio and concert repertoire Christine has performed in many of the major venues in the UK such as Linbury Studio Royal Opera House, and Kings Place and with John Lubbock and Orchestra of St John's, Music CoOperative Scotland (McOpera), Midlands Festival Orchestra, The Grampian Orchestra and Orchestra of the Swan. Recent repertoire include Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, Respighi's Il Tramonto, Sibelius Five Christmas Songs and Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus. Upcoming engagements include performances of Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana) in Sweden and recitals with songs by Poulenc, Finzi and Sibelius. Christine is a Malcolm Martineau Crear scholar 2013.
