Bio

Born and raised in New York, Soprano Christina Franco has relocated to Tampa Bay, Florida, with husband Tristan, and recently became mother to son Nicodemus. This season she is singing for Opera Tampa and St Petersburg Opera [SPO], and as a featured soloist at St. Mary Our Lady of Grace Church. Ms. Franco remains strongly connected to her NY roots, and returned last spring to sing Brahms&rsquo Requiem at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, where she had been a cantor for seven years and music minister for over 17 years (she began in Children’s Choir at the age of six). She studied for two summers with the Royal School of Church Music New England Course, and in Westminster Choir College’s Vocal Institute. She remains passionate about liturgical music, and is an active member of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and is Cantor Certified by NPM. She has been featured as a cantor, soloist, and section leader, at many churches throughout New York and now in the Tampa Bay area. Sacred credits include Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, John Rutter’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Faure’s Requiem, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Schubert’s Mass in G, Liszt’s Christus, Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate, and a new setting of Ave Maria [composed for and premiered by Ms. Franco] by Matthew Koraus. While studying at Hofstra University, Christina performed in many scenes programs and recitals, as well as fully staged operas. Other opera credits include Gianetta in L’Elisir d’Amore at Long Island Conservatory, Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte with NY Opera Studio, and Sandman from Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel with the South Shore Symphony. In 2012 Ms. Franco was a featured soloist with the St. Agnes Cathedral Choirs in a concert tour of Italy, performing selections including Verdi’s Ave Maria from Otello. Last season Ms. Franco returned to theatre in a reading of Terrence McNally’s Master Class as Sharon Graham, singing Verdi’s Lady Macbeth. Christina’s 2015-16 season began with excitement, singing for Sherrill Milnes in a masterclass at VOICExperience, and then in November winning both St Petersburg and Sun City Center’s Opera Idol competitions. She was featured in SPO’s Mornings/Evenings With the Maestro series “What’s the Fach?” and has been performing with Operatini. Christina has also performed representing SPO at various local venues and events, including the Saturday Morning Market, the Great American Teach-In, First Night, and recently at Opera Express singing Musetta in excerpts from La Boheme. Currently under the instruction of Stella Zambalis.
