 Described in the London Times as “the superb Carolyn Dobbin”, this Carrickfergus born mezzo- soprano and Samling scholar trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and on the Young Artist Programme of Opera Theatre Company in Dublin in 2006.In opera, she has worked with companies including Dorset Opera, English National Opera, Grange Park Opera, English Touring Opera. Castleward Opera, Bern Opera House ( Switzerland), Mid Wales Opera, Opera Della Luna, Opera Holland Park, OTC (Dublin), The Opera Group, Raymond Gubbay Ltd and Welsh National Opera, her repertoire including Chloe / All That Money Can Buy, the title role in Carmen, Alisa / Lucia di Lammermoor, Miss Catchall / Vera of Las Vegas, Bradamante / Alcina, Teodata / Flavio, Lisetta / Il mondo della luna, Dorabella / Così fan tutte, Second Lady / The Magic Flute, Idamante/Idomeno, Nicklaus / The Tales of Hoffmann, Dido and First Witch / Dido and Aeneas, Ottavia/ The coronation of Poppea, Cherubino / La nozze di Figaro, Irene/ Theodora, Concepcion / L’heure espagnole, Orlofsky / Die Fledermaus, Meg Page / Falstaff and Maddalena / Rigoletto, flora / La traviata  During 2010, Carolyn Dobbin was a WNO Associate Artist and the recipient of the WNO Chris Ball Bursary and the Sir John Moores Award, singing Mercédès / Carmen and Second Lady / The Magic Flute, as well as covering the title role in Carmen and Maddalena / Rigoletto.Other engagements include Janet / The Doctor’s Tale for ROH2, Scipio / Caligula and Hannah / The Passenger both for English National Opera, Andronico / Tamerlano for Capella Cracoviensis, Meg Page / Falstaff for Opera Holland Park, Emilia / Otello for Dorset Opera, Maddalena / Rigoletto for Grange Park Opera, Messiah with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Mozart Requiem at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Beethoven 9th at the Barbican, Classical Spectacular for Raymond Gubbay Ltd at London’s Royal Albert Hall and sang Messiah under the baton of Sir David Willcocks at London’s Royal Albert Hall. In concert she sang Janacek’s The Diary of One Who Disappeared at the Bath International Festival 2009 with Paul Nilon and Joanna MacGregor . Conductors with whom she has worked in opera and concert include Stephen Barlow, Nicholas Cleobury, Christian Curnyn, Richard Egarr, Jane Glover, Paul Hillier, Simon Ible, Stephen Kovachevich, Sir Charles Mackerras, Takuo Yuasa and Thomas Zehetmair, including appearances with the City of London Sinfonia, Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio Televisión Española, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Ten Tors Chamber Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra. Her broadcasts include Così fan tutte ( samling) for BBC Radio 3 and Glanerts Caligula at ENO also BBC radio3 and her recordings include Lynne Plowman’s Cries Like Silence with the London Mozart Players conducted by Nicolae Moldoveanu on Avie CD and the Swiss/German KinderOper Fraulein Bixel und Herr Glück.Carolyn Dobbin has been a member of the Lucerne Theatre from 2012 – 2014 where her roles included Penelope / Il ritorno d’Ulisse, Annio / La clemenza di Tito ( Luzern festival), Tisbe / La cenerentola, Lidwina/ Fraulein Bixel und Herr Glück and Flora Bervoix / La traviata. Recent roles include Bradamante/ Alcina, and the title role of Carmen at the Luzerner Theater. She also made her debut at Bern Stadtheater as Annina & Flora/ La Traviata, Polina in Pique Dame at Grange Park Opera, ‘Dream of Gerontius’ in Portsmouth, Fatima in Oberon, Emilia in a concert version of Rossinis Othello at the Buxton Festival and the Title role of ‘ The rape of Lucretia’ under the baton of Stephen Barlow at The Wexford Opera House.  Recent roles include 'The Page " in Salome for NIopera, Verdi Requiem, Angelina in La Cenerentola in Ireland, Dritte Dame in Zauberflöte in switzerland. Future roles include Charlotte from Werther in the UK, Handels Messiah with Reisoper Amsterdam, Concerts and recitals in France and the Uk, Susuki in Madama Butterlfy in Italy, Penelope in the return of ulisses, amastre in xerxes for ETO. She sang Madam Popova in the Bear and recorded a rare English opera called Raymond and Agnes by Richard Loder under the baton of. Richard Bonygne . She set up the northern Irish song project Italy, Penelope in The return of Ulysses, Amastre in Xerxes and cover of Diana in Callisto all in the uk.
