Bio

Born in Mexico City, Carlos Aguirre received a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder. While at the University of Colorado, Mr. Aguirre performed Count Almaviva in Le Nozze Figaro under the direction of Martin Iseep. He also performed Ford in Falstaff and Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni. In 2002 Mr. Aguirre was accepted into the Hochschule f&uumlr Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin, Germany.  In 2005, Mr. Aguirre was accepted into the Jeunes Voix du Rhin opera studio of the Opéra national du rhin in Strasbourg, France where he performed for two seasons. As part of the program Mr. Aguirre performed the role of Escamillo in Carmen, and the role of Dimitri in the French premire of the American opera The Music Shop by Richard Wargo. In 2008 Carlos Aguirre came back to CU to start the Performance Certificate program and he was also part of the 2008 Outreach Ensemble for Opera Colorado with whom he performed the role of Malatesta in Don Pasquale. In September 2008, Mr. Aguirre became part of the Resident Artists for Syracuse Opera in New York, with whom he performed the role of Escamillo in La Tragedie de Carmen, adaptation of Georges Bizet’s opera made by Peter Brook. In May 2010 he sang his debut with the Opera Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City with the role of Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen. And that same year he came back to Europe as part of the ensemble of Theater Trier in Germany. In Trier, he sang among other roles, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Marcello in La Bohème. It was in Trier where Carlos Aguirre switched from baritone to tenor and in 2013 he made his tenor debut singing Alfredo in Trier’s production of La Traviata. That same year he sang the role of Tamboumajor in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck and Hans in Smentana’s Die Verkaufte Braut. In 2014 Carlos Aguirre sang his second production of La Traviata as Alfredo and in September he made his role debut singing Don José in Carmen. In 2015 he sang his second production of Wozzeck as Tambourmajor in Augsburg, Germany. Upcoming engagements include Lenskij in Eugene Onegin at Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern in 2016.
