«“In the leading role of the sensuous gipsy, mezzosoprano Carla López-Speziale developed charm and conviction in her acting, singing with a dark and attractive timbre, and with the laudable security that allows her to know this piece, as a consequence of having already sung it in several productions beforehand.”»
Jose noe mercado, Pro-opera magazine, mexico (2016)
«“Impressive also the singing of Carla López-Speziale. She has a very beautiful, warm voice with a secure and soft top and a powerful low register.”»
christian fluri, basler landschaftszeitung, switzerland (2016)
«“As the seductress and treacherous Dalila, the beautiful and sensual Carla López-Speziale sang with warmth and strength, easily going to the most important moments of the role with consummate musicality and impeccable French pronunciation. With secure and committed acting, she dominated the stage from the moment of she came out. Her voice is rich and vibrant, with a soft transition to the lowest notes required by the role, and she knew how to create a Dalila that was subtle but with powerful sexual attraction. It was easy to understand why Samson would succumb. Her great seduction aria, ‘Mon coeur s’ouvre à ta voix’, where she embraces Samson in her dress, was sung with excellent legato; a lesson in control over the music and her conquest.”»

Bio

Recognized for her “beautiful, warm voice with a secure and soft top and a powerful low register” (Basler Landschaftszeitung, Switzerland), Carla López-Speziale has enjoyed a distinguished career in opera, zarzuela and as a concert artist. Some of her most favored roles among the more than thirty that she has performed are Carmen, Dalila, Azucena, and Isabella. Her repertoire ranges from the baroque Handelian heroes to the contemporary operas of Adamo and Heggie, including also bel canto and verismo, as well as American Musical Theater. Her interest in movement has taken her to explore the worlds of Flamenco and Belly Dance, which have greatly aided her in performing two of her signature roles: Carmen and Dalila. This November she will sing the Alto Solo in Mozart’s Requiem with OFUNAM in Mexico City, and in December she will make her debut with Musica Viva Hong Kong singing the title role in Bizet’s Carmen. Ms. López-Speziale has been awarded top prize awards in the Vincenzo Bellini Competition in Italy, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in the New York District, and the ‘Carlo Morelli’ Competition in Mexico City. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the National Conservatory in Mexico and as a Fulbright fellow, received both Master of Music and Doctor in Musical Arts Degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. Her discography includes the CD Soirée musicale with works by Rossini with pianist Sergio Vázquez for URTEXT digital Classics.
