Bio


Director and actor, Benjamin Lazar links music and theater since his first shows.
In 2004, his staging of Bourgeois Gentilhomme , in the production of Poème Harmonique, including all the interludes and ballets of Lully, meets a great public and critical success. The same year he founded his company The Theater of the Incredulous. He created notably The Other World or the States and Empires of the Moon after Cyrano de Bergerac given at the Theater of the Athenee in 2008 and 2013, The tragic loves of Pyramid and Thisbe by Théophile de Viau, The characters of the Bruyère, Fables after La Fontaine, Fire after Pascal, Visions after Quevedo, How Wang-Fô was saved from Marguerite Yourcenar.
Associate artist from 2010 to 2013 at the Quimper national stage, he created in 2010 in particular the opera Cachafaz (Copi / Strasnoy) and, in 2013, Pantagruel , with Olivier Martin-Salvan.

Apart from his creations in the theater of the incredulous, Benjamin Lazar is also devoted to the staging of opera. He has been invited to such places as the Opéra-Comique, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Théâtre de Caen, the Théâtre des Arts, the Opéra de Saint-Étienne, the Opéra de Rennes, the Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg , the Grand Theater of Aix-en-Provence or the Badisches Theater in Karlsruhe. He has collaborated, among other things, with Poème Harmonique, Les Arts Florissants, Les Musicians du Louvre, Cree de Paris and Le Balcon.
His works range from Baroque opera to contemporary music: La Vita humana by Marazzoli , Cadmus and Hermione by Lully, Il Sant'Alessio by Landi, Egisto by Cavalli, Cinderella by Massenet, Cachafaz by Strasnoy, Ariane by Naxos de Straus, Handel's Riccardo Primo .
In June 2015, he created Le Dibbouk d'An-ski at Printemps des Comédiens in Montpellier, presented at the Théâtre du Nord in Lille in May 2016.
