Born in the Czech Republic Barbora Horáková Joly studied in Munich. She worked as a directing assistant at theater Basel with among others Sebastian Nübling, Armin Petras and Vera Nemirova. Currently she works mainly with the directors David Bösch and Calixto Bieito. As a Co-Workers Director, she worked for Bieito's side for the creation Wilde van Hèctor Parra and Klaus Händel (Schwetzingen SWR Festspiele 2015). In 2015 she worked together with Georges Delnon and Kent Nagano for the production A quiet Place (Bernstein) of the Dresdner Festspiele. As director, Barbora Horáková Joly created the director for La Voix Humaine (Poulenc) in Neuchâtel, the musical Bling Bling (Festival Espacestand, Grandval France),L'Enfant et les sortiléges (Ravel) at the Theater Basel, the opening production of the Schwetzinger Festpiele 2015 Brujas y Magas and the creation of the opera Romulus der Grosse (A. Pflüger and W. Willaschek) in Basel. In 2017 she directed Pelléas et Mélisande in Oslo, L'orfeo (Monteverdi) in Bilbao and Un giorno di regno (Verdi) for the Opernfestspiele Heidenheim. For the Opéra de Lyon, in February 2018 she directed the rarely performed opera La bella dorment nel bosco by Ottorino Respighi.
