Praised for her "lovely tone"  by the Capital Times, mezzo soprano Anna Laurenzo looks ahead to an exciting 2016/17 season. Her upcoming engagements include a debut with Central City Opera as a Bonfils-Stanton Apprentice Artist, where she sings Emily in The Ballad of Baby Doe, and a return to Fort Worth Opera. There, she will perform Mercédès (Carmen) and will appear in concerts and outreach performances across North Texas.  Highlights of the 2015/16 season included debuts with Performance Santa Fe and Fort Worth Opera. Additionally, Ms. Laurenzo was a District Encouragement Award winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and competed as a 2016 semi-finalist in the Opera Birmingham Competition. Ms. Laurenzo is a frequent collaborator on new American operatic works.  Her experience has included collaboration with American composers including Carlisle Floyd, David T. Little, Jeff Meyers, and Scott Wheeler. Upcoming work includes world premiere performances of Matthew Peterson's Voir Dire with Fort Worth Opera. Previous projects have included Fort Worth Opera's new works initiative Frontiers, and workshops of David T. Little's JFK and Libby Larsen's A Wrinkle in Time.  During the 2014/15 season, Ms. Laurenzo was engaged as a Studio Artist with Madison Opera. Among her assignments, she covered Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) and performed as a soloist with the Madison Symphony Orchestra in excerpts from Candide and their annual Opera in the Park concert. She also debuted with Chicago company, Haymarket Opera as Pedrillo in Telemann's Don Quichotte and was praised as "appealingly sung" by the Chicago Tribune. Additional operatic highlights have included:  Farnace (Mitridate, re di Ponto), Isabella in Rossini's L'italiana in Algeri, Mrs. Jones (Street Scene),  Loma Williams in Carlisle Floyd's Cold Sassy Tree, Olga (Eugene Onegin), and Ida (Die Fledermaus). A native of Urbandale, IA, Ms. Laurenzo holds a Master of Music degree from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She currently resides in Fort Worth, TX, as a Lesley Apprentice Artist with Fort Worth Opera.
