Bio

Currently a PhD student at the National University of Music in Bucharest, mezzo-soprano Andreea Iftimescu graduated from the Canto department of this prestigious institution in 2008, class of Professor Slatinaru Maria, PhD, pursuing her education with an M.A. under the guidance of Professor Eleonora Enachescu, PhD. While still a student, she made herself noticed on stge at home and abroad. Thus, in 2004 she performed as a soloist in the opera &quotBrundibar" by Hans Crasa in the Festival "Voix Etouffee" in Paris. In 2009, Andreea Iftimescu  won the Grand Prix of the "Paul Constantinescu" Singing Competition in Ploiesti, and in 2010 she received the Special Award at the "Salice d'oro" Competiton in Italy. In the 2010-2011 season, Andreea Iftimescu made her debut at the Bucharest National Opera, with the "Ludovic Spiess" Ballet and Opera Experimental Studio, playing Agata in "Le Cantatrice Villane" by Valentino Fioravanti. At the same time, she also interpreted the role of Carmen in the play "La Tragedie de Carmen" by Marius Constant during the "CHEI" Festival in Bucharest, a performance conducted by Tiberiu Soare, and the "Opera Viva" Festival in Cluj-Napoca. She also held a vocal symphonic concert performing in the "Snow Queen" by Liana Alexandra, under the baton of Constatin Brancusi, with the Bucharest Radio Chamber Orchestra (2010) and was soloist in the season opening concert of the Sibiu State Philharmonic, singing "Kindertotenlieder" by Gustav Mahler, conducted by Gabriel Bebeselea (2011). She continued her work in the "Ludovic Spiess" Ballet and Opera Experimental Studio, playing The Third Dame of the Queen from the play "Die Zauberflote" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and L'amica from the play "Amelia al Ballo" by Gian Carlo Menotti. While continuing her performances in the "Ludovic Spiess" Ballet and Opera Experimental Studio, Andreea Iftimescu also made her debut on the stage of the Bucharest National Opera, interpreting the role of Niania in the play "Evgheni Oneghin" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaykovsky, performance conducted by Iurie Florea. Following her performances, she made debut as Maddalena in Giuseppe Verdi's "Rigoletto" and as Meropa from the play "Oedipe" by George Enescu. In 2013 edition of "George Enescu International Festival", Andreea Iftimescu interpreted Schwertleite from the opera "Walkyria" by Richard Wagner, a performance conducted by Marek Janowski, with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin. Also she performed in the Royal Concert, for the Romanian Royal Family, under the baton of Christian Badea. Her repertoire includes roles such as Olga in "Evgheni Oneghin" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaykovsky, Charlotte in "Werther" by Jules Massenet, Carmen in "Carmen" by Geroges Bizet, Emilia in "Otello" by Giuseppe Verdi, Mary in "Die Fliegende Hollander" by Richard Wagner etc.
