Lauded by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for her &ldquobeautiful high range,” American dramatic soprano Amber Smoke made her first foray into the Wagnerian soprano repertoire in 2013, with her role debut as Sieglinde in Die Walküre with Union Avenue Opera Theater. Since then, she has also debuted the roles of Elisabeth in TANNHäUSER with Apotheosis Opera in New York City, Vitellia in Mozart’s LA CLEMENZA DI TITO with the Occasional Orchestra of New York and Lucy Brown in Weill’s THREEPENNY OPERA with Amarillo Opera.   Formerly a mezzo-soprano, Amber’s recent performances also include her European debut as Maddalena in Rigoletto, Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, the title role in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro and Zweite Magd in Elektra.     Amber was a finalist in the 2011 Arkadi Foundation Vocal Competition and the 2010 Rochester Oratorio Society Competition, and a semi-finalist in the 2010 Peter Elvins Vocal Competition and the 2010 William C. Byrd Vocal Competition. She is also the recipient of an Encouragement Award from the Southeast Regional Metropolitan Opera National Auditions.   In previous seasons, Amber was a member of the featured women’s ensemble in the premiere of Osvaldo Golijov’s Aindamar with Santa Fe Opera, directed by Peter Sellars. As a member of the Santa Fe Young Artist Program, she sang scenes from Giulio Cesare in Egitto and Eugene Onegin. Other young artist performances include Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel and Inez in Il Trovatore with Opera Carolina, scenes from Der Rosenkavalier and LITTLE WOMEN with Des Moines Metro Opera and the title role in scenes from Carmen and The Rape of Lucretia with Chautauqua Opera. In Brevard, NC, Amber sang the role of Katisha in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado with the Janiec Opera and performed as the Alto Soloist in Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, accompanied by Martin Katz.   Equally at home in oratorio, Amber has appeared as the Alto Soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Lake Charles Symphony and Chorus and in Bach’s Magnificat with the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes. She has also sung the role of Alto Soloist in Verdi’s Requiem and Bach’s Magnificat with the Roundhill Community Choir and Orchestra. At the Eastman School of Music, she was a frequent soloist with the Eastman Chorale, in works such as Britten’s Cantata Academica and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater.   Amber holds a Bachelor’s degree (with highest honors), Master’s degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, where she performed the roles of Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Meg Page in Falstaff and Elmire in Tartuffe, among others. She is a native of Mt. Pleasant, MI and currently makes her home in New York City.
