Alexandra Scicluna, mezzosoprano, was born in Malta. She began her vocal studies with soprano Antoinette Miggiani at the age of 18, while reading for a B.A. (HONS.) in History of Art at the University of Malta. She graduated in 2002. She returned to piano and theory of music studies with Fay Griscti Davies in 2004, having previously studied both piano and theory of music as a child. She always showed a positive aptitude towards the performing arts, with several opportunities as a chorister and soloist in concerts, musicals and plays, as well as artistic director in her school days. Alexandra attended various materclasses between 2006 and 2009 under the guidance of Raffaele Ponti (USA & Italy), Ettore Nova (Italy), Ambra Vespasian (Italy), Thomas Bauer (Germany), Joyce Fieldsend (UK & Italy), Barbara Robotham (UK), Anne Howells (UK) and Patrizia Morandini (Italy). She attended the Taormina Opera Stars workshop with Enrico Stinchelli, Ambra lo Turco (dance and movement) and Maria Grazia Bonelli (acting) in 2015. In 2011 she received funds from the Malta Arts Fund, Mrs Shelley Tayar, Mrs Janatha Stubbs and the Farsons Foundation to follow a 3 month Corso di Perfezionamento with the dramatic soprano Patrizia Morandini, under whose guidance she continues to study in Florence, Italy. Since 2010, Alexandra has made her debut as Zia Principessa in Puccini's Suor Angelica ; Mrs Noye in Benjamin Britten's Noye's Fludde; Santuzza in Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana; Maddalena and Giovanna in Verdi's Rigoletto; la Frugola in Puccini's Tabarro; Flora in Verdi's Traviata; Zita in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi; Die Zweiter Dame in Mozart's The Magic Flute; Maddalena in Fortunino Verdi – a world premiere of an original production based on Verdi's operas; Tisbe in Rossini's La Cenerentola; and Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. She will be making her debut as Suzuki in Puccini's Madam Butterfly later on this year. Alexandra has also since 2002 participated as soloist in many lyrical and sacred concerts in Malta and Italy. She has sung in various cities in Italy, amongst which, Milan, Florence, Prato, Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, Montecarlo di Lucca and Taormina. In Malta she has sung at many prestigious venues, amongst which, Teatru Manoel; St. John's Co- Cathedral; under the auspices of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Tapestry Chamber at the Grandmaster's Palace; and under the auspices of the President of Malta at San Anton Palace. She has performed two world premieres by Maltese composers - Verita` by Alex Vella Gregory, and Strange Pets by Veronique Vella. Alexandra was nominated semi-finalist of the Concorso Internazionale di Musica Sacra 2012 in Roma, and a Taormina Opera Star in 2014.
