Bio

Young Italian-German soprano Alessia Schumacher enjoyed a very musical upbringing. She completed her voice studies at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ in Berlin and at Conservatori Superior del Liceu in Barcelona. Since 2018 she is a member of the excellency program Barock Vokal in Mainz. Alessia previously studied violin at the Conservatorio „G.Verdi“ in Como and holds degrees in History of Art and Musicology from the University of Vienna.

While studying she already collaborated with the Berlin Philharmonic  Orchestra (Menotti/The Telephone, 2015), giving her Konzerthaus Berlin debut as Gretel (Humperdinck/Hänsel und Gretel, 2016) soon after. As a winner of the Schloss Rheinsberg Festival competition in 2017, she debuted the role of Michaela at the festival in summer 2017. Further operatic roles include Pamina (Zauberflöte), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Mimì (La Bohème), First Lady (Zauberflöte), Romilda (Serse), Musetta (La Bohème), Frasquita (Carmen), Marie (Der Diktator), Livietta (Livietta Tracollo) and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro).

Equally at home in operatic and concert repertoire, Alessia celebrated her Dartington Festival debut in 2018, jumping in as Eve in Haydn’s Creation directed by Dame Jane Glover. That same year she performed in a staged version of Elias/Mendelssohn with Kammerakademie Potsdam and 400 children. She is about to perform her first Brahms Requiem in Berlin in June 2019. Her repertoire includes Bach's Matthäus-Passion, as well as various cantatas, Mozart Requiem, Elias and Paulus by Mendelssohn, Fauré Requiem, Haydn's Creation, Pergolesi "Stabat Mater", Rutters Magnificat and Vivaldis Gloria.

Alessia has been awarded a number of scholarships (Bernbeck Exzellenzstipendium, Luzia-Loeser Kulturfond), she is a young artist of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation „Live Music Now“ and received the Bayreuth scholarship in 2016. Alessia is a prize winner of international competitions, a.a. the Concorso lirico internazionale „Piero Boni“ in Brescia (1st prize, 2017).
