Reviews – Alberto Hold-GarridoLa Bohème at Graz Opera, nov. 2008.Die Presse:Hold-Garrido proved to be the ideal Puccini interpreter of the exquisite pleasingly sounding anddetached striking up Grazer Philharmonic Orchestra. On this way a specific Puccini sound wascreated for which Graz can be envied by some of the other opera houses.Der Standard„Worth listening and watching.“ He compares the movie currently showing in cinemas to theGrazer performance and even recommends Vienna opera freaks to come to Graz”, becausewith Alberto Hold-Garrido there is a freshman on the rostrum who roughs up the GrazerPhilharmonics right from the beginning with an intensity that a movie - howsoever perfectlycasted - cannot compete with. "Der-Neue-Merker:Alberto Hold-Garrido, native-born in Barcelona, has been the spirit’s rector for the perfectlyrehearsed Grazer Philharmonics. With the passion for detail and diligent backing group for thesingers, huge gesture for the extravagant Puccini melism and convincing agogic, he madeoverall for an interpretation that left enough room for both the sentiment and the modernityparts of the score pointing towards the 20th century. Ending in elation for the conductors andthe young and playfully protagonists of an overall worth watching and listening performance.Don Carlos at the Stockholm Opera, recordings released in aug. 2003.The Guardian, author Edward Greensfield. "The Spanish conductor AHG direct an incisiveperformanceof this long work, with warmly flexible rubato in such big moments as the oathduet and Elisabetta’s great aria in the last act (…). It says much that this version stands up sowell in direct comparison with the finest existing sets.”BBC Music Magazine, author Claire Wrathall. "Recorded live at the Royal Swedish Opera,it is masterfully driven by AHG, whose full-blooded, immaculately detailed account of the scoreis its strongest suit."Il Trovatore at Welsh National Opera, sept.-oct. 2003.The Guardian inlimited, author Tim Ashley. "The Spanish-born conductor AHG is all fireand steel, propelling Verdi’s churning arpeggios and throbbing rytms with a raw, nervousurgency."The Independent, author Stephen Walsh. “After their dodgy moments in Parsifal, it wasgood to hear the orcherstra - like the splendid chorus – in such lusty form under AHG. Hisdirect, no-fuss"
