ALBERT MONTAÑEZ COUNTERTENOR

                        
Colombian-born Countertenor Albert Montañez has performed in five continents:
Asia, South America, North America, Europe and Africa.




Last Season Mr. Montanez represented Colombia in the ISING International Music Festival in China, performing with the China Philharmonic in Suzhou and Beijing. Recently he produced and performed the U.S premiere of dramatic cantata Hojoki-An Account of my Hut by Jonathan Dove at the Caroline H. Hume Hall in San Francisco.Also, he collaborated with American Composer Jake Heggie in the first showcase of his new opera "Great Scott" as Roane Heckle for the Dallas Opera in San Francisco.

Also, he has performed at the Wigmore Hall in London with the World Premiere of Elizabeth Ogonek's Three Biographies for Countertenor and Cello and with the London Contemporary Opera as part of the Male Ensemble in the Opera, "The Schmürz" at the Barbican Centre. Mr. Montanez in previous engagements performed as Oberon in Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream with Halifax Summer Opera in Canada, Telemaco in Monteverdi's Il Ritorno D'Ulisse with Opera Studio Nederlands and Witch II in Dido and Aeneas touring theaters throughout Switzerland with
L’Avance- Scene Opera.




He has been invited by L'Alliance Française and the honorary ambassador of France to participate in La Fête de la Musique in Lesotho, Southern Africa and to perform with renowned pianist Ronel Henning in South Africa during a concert series. Mr.Montañez was the winner of the X Festival of Opera and Zarzuela in the Park with the Symphony Orchestra of Colombia and Guest Artist with the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Colombia in Carmina Burana. In addition he successfully produced, designed and performed Gluck’s Orfeo in Bogotá. Alum of the Young Artists Program of Teatro Colón in Bogota, Mr. Montanez was accepted at the age of 22 and was a three time winner of the “Un Pais que Canta” scholarship from the Colombian Ministry of Culture.

                        
He received his bachelors from University of the Andes in Bogotá, Colombia; M.M in
Literature and Performance from Western University. Also studied an Artist Diploma at
the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England with a full scholarship
and at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music obtaining a Post Graduate Diploma.
